The general consensus about Abena products is that they are useful and well made. For people who are suffering from incontinence, they are a Godsend.

They are a latex free product and have an absorbency rate five times that of the average adult diaper product. This rate of absorption measures between amounts of 50 oz. (in small amounts) and 120 oz. (in large amounts). They come with elastic bands from the legs up protecting the rear and also have a waistband for protection from the front. They also come with plastic backing that stretches to match the shape of your body.

These exact specifications, employed with dual refastenable tape tabs that allow the brief to be readjusted for fit whenever needed, really go the extra mile in providing more than what the competition has to offer the person dealing with accidents and embarrassments. There is even a wetness indicator that disappears when the brief is moist and lets you know when to change the undergarment. They also have what are stand up inner leg barriers that help contain all the urine and feces within the padded area.

They are manufactured in the countries of Denmark, France, Germany and Sweden using Europeís largest and most technologically superior manufacturing plants. Their products are also subject to a rigorous testing process; the target ranges set at new and improved standards for the manufacture of disposable incontinence products. They are extremely committed to seek improvement in the quality of life for many people dealing with the problem of incontinence.

The Abena Abri-Flex Air-Plus disposable underwear diaper is one of the leading adult diapers in Europe today. They are valued for their high quality and super absorbency. They make the disposable underwear utilizing three different absorbency levels. However, NorthShore, their offshoot company, has the most absorbent variety of pull-ups called EXTRA. They also carry the least absorbent variety called PLUS. Abena’s Plus is by far more absorbent in lab tests than almost every other absorbent pull-ons on the market today.

The extra tall waistline provides extra coverage in the front of the undergarment and the rear for added protection and comfort. The leakage protection is far superior to anything offered in the United States. Advanced features include tear-away side seams, disposable tape and a wetness indicator. It also has a breathable cloth-like exterior; waterproofed and yet breathable to give good air flow to the skin. The adult pull-ons provide two absorbance styles are available to the consumer; EXTRA or the more economical PLUS absorbency.

Due to a multiplicity of possible causes of adult incontinence, it is not surprising to know that this condition is common. The following are the risk factors that can increase your chance of acquiring one:

•	Sex – women are more likely to acquire urinary incontinence due to tons of different reasons, the most common are childbirth and menopause. However, men who have prostate problems are also at a higher risk of having overflow and urge incontinence.
•	Age – when people age, the bodily functions and processes start to slow down and weaken. The same thing happens with the bladder. As people get older, the bladder muscles become weak and experiences difficulty in controlling urine. Hence, old age makes people susceptible to such condition.
•	Obesity – being obese and overweight increase the pressure in one’s bladder and the muscles surrounding it. Hence, these muscles are weakened which allow urine leakage when one laughs, coughs or sneezes too much.
•	Smoking – smoking results in a number of lifelong and even fatal diseases. One of the less serious results of smoking is adult incontinence as constant coughing brought about by chain smoking puts a lot of stress in one’s urinary sphincter. Longtime chain smokers experience urinary incontinence as well as having an overactive bladder (amongst tons of other illnesses that smoking brings).
•	Vascular disease – if you have an extensive vascular disease, then you are at a higher risk of developing an overactive bladder, resulting to chronic incontinence.
•	Participation in high-impact sports – while sports is good for the body, high-impact ones such as basketball, running and gymnastics can cause a series of incontinence episodes is healthy women, as these vigorous activities often put too much pressure on the bladder. However, there are no medical records that link high-impact sports with an increased risk of acquiring chronic incontinence.
•	Other diseases – having kidney diseases or diabetes increases one’s chance of acquiring adult incontinence.

There are a lot of consequences brought about by urinary incontinence. As such, it is important to discuss with your doctor everything that you experience relating to the condition, no matter how trivial or embarrassing as it may seem. Why so? Firstly, your condition may just be a symptom of a more serious illness that can result in more serious (and even fatal) problems. This is especially true your incontinence is associated with the blood in your urine. Also, if your condition prevents you from doing your usual everyday activities and limit your interactions with other people out of embarrassment brought about by the condition. Lastly, old people who often rush to the toilet due to this condition may increase their risk of falling or slipping just so they can reach the toilet in time.

It is important to bear in mind that although this condition may not be totally harmful to one’s health, it can aggravate to more serious problems if neglected. Before that happens, make sure to ask for your doctor’s help to know everything about your condition. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Two Basic Types of Adult Incontinence

A lot of people suffer from a weak bladder and bowel incontinence; both men and women alike. Although this condition is very much curable nowadays, most sufferers are still embarrassed to discuss the problem with their physician. In fact, there are a lot who never spill out their condition even to their families until such time that the problem is already getting obvious. The thought of having this condition is already very embarrassing, let alone being discussed with someone who is knowledgeable enough about adult incontinence. Incontinence among adults is the condition of which a person does not have the ability to control bladder activities and bowel movements. There are two types of incontinence: the urinary and fecal incontinence.

Urinary incontinence is more prevalent as compared to the fecal incontinence. It is the condition of losing control over the bladder. It can happen to anyone at any age, at any time and affects both men and women. It is more common among people aged 50 and above. Some symptoms manifested by urinary incontinence includes having urine leaks, and excessing wetting. These symptoms are due to having an overactive bladder and a weak bladder muscles. It could also be due to blockage caused by enlarged prostate, multiple sclerosis, damaged nerves in the urinary system and other medical conditions. Urinary incontinence is subdivided into four subtypes: the stress incontinence, overflow incontinence, urge incontinence and functional incontinence. Urinary incontinence happen when the muscles in the bladder are too weak to keep up with the overactive bladder activity. If the muscles can no longer keep the bladder closed, patients may accidentally have urine leakage when they laugh, sneeze, cough or lift a heavy object. Most often, patients experiences a strong urge to use the bathroom, yet have a very little amount of urine. This is because of the overactive bladder. There are different treatments available for every type. Most of the options include bladder training, kegels exercise, certain medications and surgery in serious cases.

Fecal incontinence is a rare type of incontinence. It is a medical condition that is characterized by inability to control bowel movements and leaking. There are about 6 million Americans who suffer this condition. Just like urinary incontinence, people of any age can be affected by fecal or bowel incontinence, but it is more common among adults. It can be caused by several medical problems. Mostly it is due to a weak or damaged anal sphincter muscle and nerves. It can also be due to an absent storage capacity within the rectum, pelvic floor dysfunction and even diarrhea. People who suffer fecal incontinence experience a strong urge to defecate. This condition is very rare, yet it is much more serious that urinary incontinence. Thus, if you are suffering from bowel incontinence, immediately seek help from your primary doctor for treatment. There are a lot of treatments available for fecal incontinence. Among these are change in diet, medications and drugs, and bowel training. In some cases, you may undergo surgery to treat the problem especially if the condition is no longer curable by simple medications.

It never crossed my mind that one day I would be having a discussion with a doctor concerning my incontinence issues and that I would need to wear an Adult Diaper. But that discussion did happen to me at the age of 57. In July of 2006 I was diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer, and told that I needed surgery. I had been a healthy athletic male all of my life, and to be told I needed cancer surgery was devastating. When the doctor talked to me about the surgery, I paid close attention to all of the specifics, and I remember him saying “Oh by the way you could experience some incontinence issues following the surgery”. At the time I never gave the incontinence issues a thought, after all I was a guy that had been in competitive sports all my life, had run in 9 Hood to Coast races, one marathon, played golf at least twice a week, and snow skied 30 times a season. I thought to myself that I would over come the incontinence issues and master that problem like I had every other athletic obstacle in my life. Well, I was wrong. The successful surgery came and went, but the incontinence issues have stayed with me now for over three years.

I think for me I never thought twice about wearing the Pad, Guard, Depend, Adult Diaper or what ever you want to call this item. I knew I needed it and was going to have to live with it, so I better make the best of it. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing fun or exciting about wearing an adult diaper, but you go forward with the cards you were given.

After my surgery, I first used a product called “Kroger Guards for Men”. My first thoughts of the product was, “these look nice and are comfortable”. The product was soft with ruffled edges. It also looked large enough to absorb as much liquid without spilling over and causing me an embarrassing moment. I can remember thinking at the time that an embarrassing moment was my biggest concern, not comfort. The Kroger Guards fit well, was comfortable, and dependable for long periods of time. In two years of using the Kroger Guards, I never experienced the embarrassing moment in public due to leaks. Don’t get me wrong, I never forget that I am wearing a guard, but I have accepted it and have learned to live with it.

As I said before, I am a very active person and I have found out that the more active one is the more often you have to change your guard. In order to change guards, I am always having to carry a spare guard in my back pocket of my pants. Because the Kroger Guards were large, the guard would be noticeable in my back pockets. That really didn’t bother me, but I started hearing my wife say “push the pad down into your back pocket”. When it finally came to some of my friends telling me the same thing, I felt I needed to look at making a change.

That is when I was introduced to the product called “Depend Guards for Men”. I found out right away that the guard worked just as well, felt just as good, and fit into my back pocket of my pants much easier. The Depend pad is smaller but is just as absorbent as the larger Kroger pad.

Wearing a pad for my incontinence is just part of my life now. I run three or four times a week, play golf during the spring and summer almost everyday, and ski during the winter months all the time wearing a Depend Guard to help deal with my incontinence. Being incontinent has not slowed me down, it is just something that I have had to add to my daily “Things To Do List”. I always carry an extra pad in my running bag, in my golf bag, in my ski bag and in the pair of pants I am wearing for the day.

Unfortunately, baby diapers are more advanced and more effective then the counterpart adult version. Adult disposables are improving, however they have along way to go until the match the efficiency and effectiveness of baby diapers. Advances, in recent years, had added more padding and more polymer gel, which has created a better adult incontinence product but there is still along way to go.

There are other major differences between the baby diaper and their adult counterpart, baby diapers have a bikini-style fit and use singlewide tapes for both sides. The reason that adult diapers are not cut this way is because adults have larger thighs. Therefore, an adult diaper is cut so that there is a better fit around the leg band. This snugger fit around the legs prevents leaks when sitting down. The snugger the diaper fits the overall better protection you will receive. Tena, is known for a much better than most other diapers on the market right now. Tena has been able to give it’s users a customized feeling with the way the tap and wing fit. One, possible, negative to Tena, is that the manufacturer has switched the backing from plastic to cloth.

In order to have an honest review of these adult incontinence products it is very important to review some of the disadvantages or flaws. The largest flaw of adult diapers is clumping. This happens when the padding slides into crotch from the sides, front and rear. When this happens, it leaves you vulnerable to leaks because there is very little coverage remaining in the front and back of the diaper. Many of the store brand diapers have problems with clumping. The premium adult diapers are less likely to have an issue with clumping, for example, Tranquility, Molicare and Abena that we discussed earlier.

The negative review of adult diapers has put extra stress and embarrassment onto your condition. Some people find it very hard to overcome the negative stigma attached to using adult incontinence products. As more people begin to talk about this issue and easier it will be for people to get much needed information about the condition as well as the products that are out on the market that can help people regain their independence. Some people have found out the great benefits of using adult incontinence products while others still shy away from experimenting with them. If the fear of purchasing them in person is what is stopping your from taking advantage of these products, most every product mentioned in this article can be found online. Because of the technological advances, you are now able to do your research and purchase these products on line, saving your money and personal stress. The product gets delivered to your home where you can determine which product works best for your life style. Adult incontinence diapers, whether you choose to use pads, liners, “undergarments” or pull-ons, they will all provide the personal level of protection you need in order to get back to your life before you struggled with incontinence issues. are going to provide a very real element of protection and allow folks to get back to their lives. It is time that this information about these products and condition is available for everyone struggling with regaining their independence. Diapers are no longer just for infants; they are a crucial part of overcoming incontinence.

Adult incontinence diapers cover a wide variety of products that have a solution to many different types of incontinence as well as different life styles. Whether you are looking for a product to help with light infrequent incontinence issues or a full fitted adult pull on brief, there is a choice with both pros and cons.

It has been suggested that if changing in public is that only deterrent to wearing the pull on style incontinence diaper, that it is possible to wear two pull-on diapers together. If you do have an accident, simple tear out the wet liner, along the sides. These products are meant to be easily torn along the seem. Once the wet pad section of the first diaper has been removed then it leave the second, dry diaper. This process eliminates having to completely undress in a public restroom. The negative to this suggestion is the extra bulk associated with wearing two pull-on diapers at once. There is a trade off for the comfort or not having to worry about changing in public is an accident does occurs.

It is very important that when you try anything new, a new type of continence adult diaper or experience with added protection, that you do so in the comfort of your home. It is very important that you have experimented and feel comfortable with the results of the product that you have chosen. One of the largest challenges that we mentioned above is changing in public. It is often difficult to manage this with privacy. And changing your diaper in a public restroom, you might also lack the space and time required to do a good good and make sure your incontinence product is fit properly to prevent leaks. It is important to remember that when changing your diaper that you also take the time to cleanse the skin. This is a very important step in order to keep your skin healthy. An anti-bacterial wipe works great for this type of use.

If you are unable to do a complete diaper change when away from home and if your skin is not sensitive and will allow it you can use a product like “Fresh Again Incontinent Odor Spray”. This type of product with reduce the oder from your urine. Also, if you are unable to do a complete diaper change, consider the option of just changing out an insert pad or liner (baby liners can be used for this). This can eliminate the frustration of changing the entire diaper but can offer a fresh and clean alternative. This is also a great way of cutting down on costs.

We mentioned the use of “tapes” earlier and it is important to point of that while in the past tapes were not also known to be reliable they have improved dramatically. Tapes have been known to unstick or pop off, loosening the diaper, or tear off the diaper completely. This can put you in a very uncomfortable position if you are out in public and don’t have another replacement one.

It is safe to say that almost any tape, can be it reused or not. Most tapes can be immediately peeled off and then re-positioned at the beginning. However, most of these tapes become set after they’ve been applied. If you are refasten the tape it can cause the diaper to leak. It is better if you don’t refasten the tape and if you have to use the restroom, slide the diaper down like traditional underwear. This will prevent the tape from malfunctioning and will reduce the risk of leaks.

If you do find that you are having to tape and reapply and are suffering the consequences of doing so, duct tape can be used because it is strong and sticks to every thing. The negative of using something like duct tape is that is makes the diaper pretty unusable after the initial wear. But it will keep with diaper and tape secure for extended periods of time which can offer security and ease for people that are frustrated with the problem of tapes. Remember that is it much easier to slide the diaper down like traditional underwear, especially if you have applied duct tape to hold the diaper in place.

It is impossible to tell each person what type of adult incontinence product to use because each each person has a different level of incontinence, different body shape and different standards for comfortable. This article is mainly to discuss the many different options that are available and to share some of the pros and cons of each different method. Like suggested earlier, it is better for you to experiment in the comfort of your own home to find out what products or combination of products works best for your level of incontinence and your lifestyle choices.
